About the Office of National Security and Operations Coordination
What We Do
The Office of National Security and Operations Coordination is responsible for:
- Overseeing the Intelligence & Threat Mitigation and Operations & Continuity Divisions
- Serving as the EPA’s principal national security and intelligence advisor, providing mission-critical information, analysis, and guidance on matters of national security and intelligence.
- Advising EPA senior leaders on matters related to national security and intelligence.
- Managing the agency Homeland Security budget distributions based on Administration priorities, in coordination with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
- Providing leadership and coordinating national security policy across the Agency, including EPA's implementation of national-level policies and the national planning frameworks, covering resilience, response, mitigation and recovery for nationally significant emergencies such as large-scale hazmat incidents, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters.
- Supporting regional engagement and national-level emergency response coordination.
- Serving as the primary liaison with senior officials in the White House's National Security Council, the Department of Homeland Security, other federal agencies, and nongovernmental partners pertaining to national security.
- Serving as the Federal Intelligence Coordinating Office, the principal Agency liaison with the US intelligence community, including the Office of the Director National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, among others and coordinating with EPA programs and regions on matters related to national intelligence, and classified and other sensitive information.
- Coordinating the implementation of national security memoranda, national strategies, executive orders, and statutes related to national security and impacts on EPA’s Strategic Plan and equities.
- Leading the Agency’s planning, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery for national security emergencies. This includes responsibility for:
- Providing agencywide policy, guidance, and direction.
- Making recommendations for resources on matters of national security.
- Facilitating the development and establishment of the long-term strategic direction for the response and recovery of the impacted community in consultation with the Administrator, Assistant Administrators, Regional Administrators, and other appropriate parties.
