What We Do
The Scientific Computing and Data Curation Division (SCDCD) develops the knowledge and information architecture necessary for integrating, transforming, and managing large scale data streams related to assessing the risk of chemicals. SCDCD creates and manages online tools and ensures they are compatible with existing chemistry, toxicology, exposure, kinetics, and other data sources.
SCDCD scientists develop innovative decision support tools that integrate complex data sources and organize them for simple application in specific chemical safety decisions.

Branches
- Application Development Branch (ADB): Curtis Kilburn, Branch Chief
ADB develops innovative ways to rapidly build translational scientific software applications, and efficiently transition scientific prototypes into enterprise-level software tools for better environmental decision making. This includes maintaining a robust computing infrastructure with state-of-the-art DevSecOps support. - Data Extraction and Quality Evaluation Branch (DEQEB): Colleen Elonen, Branch Chief
DEQEB focuses on the research and development of methods, standards, and ontologies to facilitate rapid and accurate data extraction and curation from structured and unstructured data sources, while providing new information on exposures and hazards related to environmental stressors and ecological integrity. - Data Management and Mining Branch (DMMB): Norman Adkins, Branch Chief
DMMB develops infrastructure and tools that can support efficient integration, transformation, dissemination, and mining of large-scale data on exposures and hazards related to environmental stressors and ecological integrity.
