EPA Announces 2024 Chemical Data Reporting Deadlines

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is announcing deadlines for the 2024 Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) cycle. The 2024 submission period will be from June 1, 2024, to September 30, 2024.  Steps to prepare for this reporting can be done now and are described in the Federal Register. There were no changes to reporting requirements for this reporting period.

The CDR rule requires manufacturers (including importers) to report data to EPA every four years. These data include information concerning the manufacturing, processing, and use of such chemical substances, unless exempt from this requirement under the CDR rule. The reporting requirements cover certain chemicals listed on the TSCA Chemical Substance Inventory if manufactured (including imported) above an applicable regulatory threshold. For the 2024 submission period, manufacturers (including importers) are subject to the reporting requirements based on manufacturing (including importing) activities conducted during the calendar years 2020 – 2023.

CDR is the most comprehensive source of basic exposure-related information on chemicals in U.S. commerce. The CDR database increases public awareness of chemicals being manufactured in communities and helps EPA and a variety of interested parties—including communities, other regulatory agencies, industry, researchers and nongovernmental organizations—evaluate and understand information about the types, quantities, and uses of chemicals produced domestically or imported into the United States. CDR information is critical to meeting the Agency’s information needs, especially for prioritization, risk evaluation, and risk management of chemicals under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and supports the Agency’s commitment to transparency and data integrity. Earlier this year EPA released the first ever CDR National Review. The 2020 CDR National Review summarized the most recent reporting cycle data (2020), covering activities from 2016 to 2019 and provides trend data for reporting over the past decade.

Updated guidance documents on submitting information to the CDR database will be available in the fall of 2023. Helpful information about prior CDR reporting cycles is available on the CDR website.
