EPA Releases Supplement, Extends Public Comment Period, and Announces New Dates for SACC Meeting on Draft TSCA Risk Evaluation for 1,3-Butadiene
Released March 4, 2025
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is releasing a supplement to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) draft risk evaluation for 1,3-butadiene for public comment and peer review. This supplement refines the cancer risk estimates from exposure to 1,3-butadiene in air from releasing facilities. These refined facility specific risk estimates provide important updated estimates for incorporation into the risk evaluation.
To give the public time to review and provide comments on the supplement, and for the agency’s Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) peer reviewers to review the comments, EPA will soon publish a Federal Register notice extending the public comment period by an additional 15 days. The current public comment period closes on March 5, 2025. EPA will accept comments in docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2024-0425 on regulations.gov until March 20, 2025.
EPA is also announcing the new dates for the SACC meeting to review the draft risk evaluation on 1,3-butadiene. The peer review meeting will now be held on April 1-4, 2025. Additionally, the virtual preparatory meeting for the public to consider and ask questions regarding the scope and clarity of the draft charge questions will now be held on March 25, 2025. Minor revisions to the charge questions have been posted in the docket.
Registration instructions for the virtual preparatory and peer review meetings are available on the SACC website, including information about how to register to present oral comments during the meetings.
