Primary Data Sources

• Clean Air Power Sector Programs : Includes data reported to EPA by electric generating units to comply with the regulations in 40 CFR Part 75 and 40 CFR Part 63. Data include annual emissions of CO₂, NO_X, SO₂, and Hg; ozone season emissions of NO_X; and annual and ozone season generation and heat input. 
• Form EIA-860: This survey collects generator-level specific information about existing and planned generators and associated environmental equipment at electric power plants with 1 megawatt or greater of combined nameplate capacity. 
• Form EIA-923: This survey collects detailed electric power data -- monthly and annually -- on electricity generation, fuel consumption, fossil fuel stocks, and receipts at the power plant and prime mover level.
• EIA State Electricity Profiles: State-level statistics on electric power plants, capacity, generation, fuel consumption, sales, prices and customers.
• U.S. Department of Energy Combined Heat and Power Database: A comprehensive listing of combined heat and power installations throughout the country. 
• North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC): Reliability assessment areas are occasionally used to place a plant into the proper eGRID subregion. 
• National Emissions Inventory (NEI): a comprehensive and detailed estimate of air emissions of criteria pollutants, criteria precursors, and hazardous air pollutants from air emissions sources.

Emissions Inventories and Reports

• Clean Air and Power Division(CAPD): runs programs that reduce air pollution from power plants, including the Acid Rain Program (ARP), the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule (CSAPR), and the CSAPR Update. 
  • Progress Reports: Annual reports on the status of programs run by CAPD.
  • Data Resources: Information about the major data tools and resources used by CAPD.
• Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks: an annual report that provides a comprehensive accounting of total greenhouse gas emissions for all man-made sources in the U.S.
• Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP): requires reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) data and other relevant information from large GHG emission sources, fuel and industrial gas suppliers, and CO2 injection sites in the U.S.
• Green Power Partnership: promotes the use of green power and the development of renewable electricity sources. 
• Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Partnership: works with stakeholders to reduce air pollution and water usage associated with electric power generation by increasing the use of CHP. 
• Our Nation's Air: Status and Trends: This annual report, titled Our Nation's Air, summarizes the nation's air quality status and trends.
