EPA Administrator Zeldin Visits Iowa, Announces New EPA DEF Guidance, Attends State Fair, Celebrates One Big Beautiful Bill
WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin was in Iowa to visit with state, local and federal partners, farmers, and stakeholders to discuss environmental issues in the state, announce new guidance from EPA on Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), and celebrate President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB).
Administrator Zeldin, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Kelly Loeffler, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke L. Rollings, and Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) announced on Tuesday that EPA is issuing guidance urging engine and equipment manufacturers to revise DEF system software to prevent sudden shutdowns and give operators more time to repair faults without impacting productivity or safety. Through this guidance, EPA is doing its part to keep tractors, farm equipment, and trucks in operation to ensure the hardworking Americans using these vehicles can continue doing their jobs in peace while protecting the environment.

Following the announcement, Administrators Zeldin and Loeffler attended the Iowa State Fair with U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) and served as grill masters at the Iowa Pork Producers Association tent. He then walked around the fair with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

Administrator Zeldin also spoke on a panel with Administrator Loeffler and Senator Ernst at the Ernst Entrepreneur Expo at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Administrator Zeldin discussed how EPA’s actions are working to help Iowa’s entrepreneurs and job creators.

Administrator Zeldin concluded his trip at a One Big Beautiful Bill Celebration at Mid-States Companies in Nevada, Iowa, where, alongside Administrator Loeffler, Senator Ernst and U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra (IA-4), he touted the victories that President Trump’s OBBB will deliver for hardworking Iowans, including through immediate saving delivered to taxpayers through the recission of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, streamlined permitting so we can actually start building again and investing in AI, and prioritization of baseload power to unleash American energy dominance.
