EPA Region 7 Celebrates Earth Day

LENEXA, KAN. (APRIL 22, 2025) – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 is marking the 55th anniversary celebration of Earth Day by conducting outreach and a cleanup across the Kansas City metro and in Lawrence, Kansas.
“Earth Day is a reminder for every American that we have a duty to protect our planet for our future generations,” said EPA Region 7 Administrator Jim Macy. “Today is a call to action for each of us to do our part.”
Here are EPA Region 7’s Earth Day activities:
- Macy detailed how the Heartland office will safeguard human health and the environment, while advancing EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s Powering the Great American Comeback initiative in an Earth Day guest commentary for The Kansas City Star.
- Deputy EPA Region 7 Administrator Ed Chu and EPA Region 7 staff joined Donnelly College students and professors in Kansas City, Kansas, to discuss environmental protection and preservation, as well as participate in hands-on equipment demonstrations.
- Macy addressed the 32nd annual Air and Waste Management Association Conference in Lenexa, Kansas, to discuss the importance of Earth Day and to provide the association with updates regarding EPA’s national and regional priorities.
- EPA Region 7 staff set up information booths during the month at the Kansas City Zoo; Watkins Museum in Lawrence; Lakeside Nature Center in Kansas City, Missouri; Olathe Public Library; and at the Sac and Fox Earth Day in Reserve, Kansas. Regional staff provided information on protecting children and adults from lead and radon, as well as the careful use of chemicals and pesticides in the home.
- EPA Region 7 staff will commemorate Earth Day by participating in a cleanup of the public parks near the Region 7 Science and Technology Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
