EPA Holds Virtual Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee Meeting

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a virtual public meeting of the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee (PPDC) on June 5 and June 6, 2024, from 11:00AM – 5:00PM (EDT). The PPDC provides feedback to EPA on pesticide regulatory, policy and program issues and includes representatives from environmental groups, pesticide manufacturers, trade associations, academia and federal and state agencies.
Topics for the meeting include:
- An overview of the Office of Pesticide Programs’ priorities and accomplishments for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024, including Pesticide Registration Improvement Act 5 and Endangered Species Act implementation. Additional priorities include modernizing information technology infrastructure and developing a framework to improve how EPA evaluates antimicrobial resistance.
- Updates from PPDC sub-workgroups, including the Pesticide Label Reform Workgroup, Emerging Pathogens Implementation Workgroup, and Pesticide Resistance Management Workgroup #2.
- A discussion about the formation of a workgroup to address pesticide-related issues impacting the farmworker community. Potential charge questions will also be presented for discussion.
- A presentation on EPA’s effort to increase public awareness of Integrated Pest Management and other risk reduction best practices.

EPA’s funding level in the FY 2024 appropriations for the pesticides program is over $6 million less than it was for FY 2023. To begin to address this decrease in funding, the Agency has decided to make the PPDC meeting virtual only, rather than offering an in-person option.
