Summary

EPA is conducting a five-year review of the LeHillier/Mankato Superfund site. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment.

The EPA added the LeHiller/Mankato site to the National Priorities List in 1983. A Record of Decision was signed by the EPA in 1985, which outlines the cleanup plan at the site. Updates to the cleanup plan were added in the 2008 Explanation of Significant Differences. The EPA’s cleanup plans included:

  • An extraction well system to pump and treat contaminated groundwater.
  • Extension of the LeHillier community water system to affected residents and businesses.
  • Proper abandonment in accordance with State well codes of individual wells formerly used as drinking water supplies.
