Public Notice: Fansteel Metals Superfund Site, EE/CA Public Comment Period
Summary
An Engineering Evaluation and Cost Analysis (EE/CA) for the Fansteel Metals Superfund site located at 10 Tantalum Place in Muskogee, Muskogee County Oklahoma (Site) is available for public comment. The site is located within the historical boundaries of Cherokee Nation land and is adjacent to historical Muskogee Nation land.
The EPA, under the authority of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Lability Act (CERCLA), commonly known as Superfund, is initiating a non-time-critical removal action at the Fansteel Metals Superfund site. Hazardous substances have been found in the site’s groundwater as well as sediment and surface water found in on-site ponds.
This action is necessary to mitigate threats to human health and the environment posed by hazardous substances found in groundwater underlying the Site and in on-site ponds.
Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA)
As part of this non-time critical removal action, the EPA has drafted an EE/CA report. The EE/CA includes an analysis of removal action alternatives to mitigate risks to human and the environment and provides a recommended alternative.
The draft EE/CA report, along with supporting documentation, is available online for public review on the EPA’s Site webpage (see link below) and at the Site’s Information Repository located at the Muskogee Public Library: see Site Documents & Data and Administrative Record (AR) File. Public comments will be accepted for 45 days from August 28, 2025, through October 10, 2025. The EPA values public input and encourages community involvement in the Superfund process.
