Summary

The EPA is accepting comments from the public on its intent to issue a permit for Marquis Carbon Injection to inject carbon dioxide (CO2) underground at its proposed injection well in Putnam County, Illinois. This injection would be part of a process that is often called “geologic sequestration” or “carbon sequestration.” Carbon sequestration is a means of reducing emissions of CO2 to the atmosphere.
