Public Notice: Section 401 CWA Water Quality Certification for Discharges Related to USACE Los Angeles District Regional General Permit 105 in Western Pinal County, Arizona
Summary
EPA Region 9 is evaluating a water quality certification for discharges associated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District Regional General Permit 105 for drainage maintenance activities within Waters of the United States in western Pinal County, Arizona. The permit would authorize activities involving the discharge of fill materials associated with the removal of accumulated sediments, removal of vegetation, and other minor maintenance-related activities in channelized/engineered drainages located within designated watersheds in western Pinal County, Arizona. The area covered by the permit includes the Ak-Chin Indian Community of the Maricopa Indian Reservation as well as portions of the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona.
As the water quality certifying authority for the Ak-Chin Indian Community and Tohono O'odham Nation, EPA will analyze the discharge from the proposed activities to determine if the activity will comply with sections of the Clean Water Act. Then EPA will decide whether to (1) certify as proposed; (2) certify with conditions; (3) deny or (4) waive certification of the proposed activities.
Location
The project area is located in western Pinal County, Arizona and includes the Lower Vekol Wash, Lower Santa Rosa Wash, Lower Santa Cruz Wash and Lower Greene Wash watersheds.
