Public Notice: South Andover Site Five-Year Review
Summary
EPA is conducting a five-year review of the South Andover Superfund site. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment.
The site’s long-term remedy included monitored natural attenuation of groundwater contamination, soil treatment and off-site soil disposal. EPA's remedy at the site was finished by 1994. Following cleanup, EPA removed part of the site from the NPL in 1998.
EPA has conducted several five-year reviews of the site’s cleanup remedy. These reviews ensure that the remedies in place to protect public health and the environment are functioning as intended.
