Public Notice: Tomah Armory Landfill Five-Year Review
Summary
The EPA is conducting the sixth five-year review of the Tomah Armory Landfill Superfund site in Tomah, Wisconsin. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. A summary of the cleanup activities and an evaluation of the protectiveness of the implemented cleanup remedies will be included in the five-year review report.
EPA’s cleanup at the site consisted of groundwater monitoring, leaving waste material in place under the existing soil cover and buildings, and limiting the use of the landfill property and groundwater. Following cleanup, land-use controls, operation and maintenance activities and monitoring were implemented and are ongoing.
The five-year review at the Tomah Armory Landfill site gives the public an opportunity to comment about site conditions or concerns.
This is the sixth five-year review and completion is expected by March 2026.
