Webinar - Electrifying America's Ports
Ports are gateways of commerce and drivers of the U.S. economy but are also significant sources of air pollution due to land- and water-side diesel equipment operations. In this webinar, you’ll learn how electrifying drayage trucks, locomotives, ocean-going vessels, cargo-handling equipment, and harbor craft equipment is helping to accelerate decarbonization and cut pollution in communities across the U.S. Electrifying port operations is an important way to address environmental justice concerns of port-adjacent communities.
This May 2022 webinar begins with an overview from EPA’s Ports Initiative about resources to support port electrification. The California Air Resource Board (CARB) provides an overview of commercially available zero-emission port equipment and highlight lessons learned from various projects. The South Carolina Ports Authority discusses its air quality initiatives and Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) grants, including coordination with trucking companies for deployment of all-electric class 8 trucks in and around port terminals. The Port of Tacoma presents lessons learned from its DERA shore power and electric yard hostler projects and plans to deliver infrastructure upgrades at all its port facilities. Lastly, Tacoma Power provides recommendations and best practices for improving how utilities and ports work together to support and plan decarbonization efforts.
