Public Notice: EPA to review cleanup at Spokane Junkyard and Associated Properties Superfund site in Washington
Summary
EPA has begun its sixth review of the environmental cleanup at the Spokane Junkyard and Associated Properties Superfund site in Spokane, Washington. EPA is required to review Superfund sites every five years when contaminants remain on site to make sure that cleanup actions continue to protect human health and the environment.
The site was first added to the National Priorities ListA list of sites, many nominated by the states, for hazardous waste cleanup under Superfund. in 1994. The site was cleaned up through removal actions which were completed in 1996. The removal actions included excavation and treatment of contaminated soil and consolidation of the treated soil in an on-site containment cell and land use controls. The site has been redeveloped as a sports complex. The site was removed from the National Priorities List in 1997.
