The interactive data tools below provide a way to explore public data from the 2024 EPA Automotive Trends Report. Users can now filter, sort and download two data types:

Summary Automotive Trends Data. The summary data allow users to explore the trends in fuel economy, CO2, and vehicle attributes for model years 1975-2024. All model year 2024 values are preliminary.

Detailed Automotive Trends Data. The detailed data tables allow for the most in-depth exploration of the data behind the Trends report. They provide additional historical detail and aggregation by technologies for analysis beyond that found in the main report.

Explore Trends Summary Data

Quick tips to utilize the interactive data tools, below:

  • Hover your mouse over points on the graph to reveal data.
  • Use the scroll bar under the x-axis to see all years of data on the line graphs.
  • Change the graph displayed by clicking the tabs on the top of the graph to view by Vehicle Type or Manufacturer, and then clicking on the tabs on the left for different attributes of interest.
  • Filter the data by clicking on trend lines, years in the graph, or labels in the legend. Apply the selection by clicking on the green box with a check mark.
  • Alternatively, scroll down to use the “Filter the Data” panes or use the data table to filter by Model Year, Regulatory Class, Vehicle Type, or Manufacturer.
  • Selections will be highlighted in green and appear in the grey toolbar at the top. Cancel a selection by clicking the grey X above the tables under Filter the Data. Clear a selection by clicking the grey circle with a white X on the grey toolbar at the top or the grey, dotted box with an X.
  • Download the data by clicking on the blue export button. The downloaded CSV file will reflect any filtering and sorting.

Explore Trends Detailed Data

The following detailed data tables include real-world and compliance data from the report tables and figures, as well as supplemental data beyond that found in the main report. Users can view the data in interactive tables, and sort, filter, or select data of interest to download.

Quick tips to utilize the interactive tables, below:
  • Click the magnifying glass in the column headers to select and filter by variable of interest. Click on the gray check mark to confirm the selection.
  • Selections will be highlighted in green and appear in the grey toolbar at the top. Cancel or clear the current selection by clicking the grey circle with an X, or use the dotted, gray box with an X on the grey toolbar to clear all selections.
  • Change the sort order in a column by clicking on the column name.
  • Change the column order by clicking and dragging the column headers.
  • Download the data for each table by clicking on the corresponding blue export button. The downloaded CSV file will reflect any filtering and sorting.

Updated data are released annually with the publication of the report. Users of the data are encouraged to read the About the Data page and download and review the Appendices to the Full Report to fully understand the data.
