Causal Analysis/Diagnosis Decision Information System (CADDIS)

  • Importance of CADDIS

Thousands of water bodies in the United States are too degraded to support healthy aquatic life.  In many cases, the cause of this biological impairment is not known.

  • Causal Decision Tool

CADDIS helps users identify causes of biological impairment in streams. It provides information, methods, and tools that help analyze and evaluate potential stressors.

  • Getting Started

If you are new to causal assessment, we recommend that you start with "Basic CADDIS Information" to learn what CADDIS is and why it was developed.

The Causal Analysis/Diagnosis Decision Information System, or CADDIS, is designed to help scientists and resource managers in the Regions, States, and Tribes conduct causal assessments in aquatic systems. It provides a weight-of-evidence approach for identifying causes of biological impairment (Volume 1), along with information, examples, and tools to help with this process (Volumes 2-5).
