EPA Evaluation of 2024-2025 Milestone Progress and 2026-2027 Milestone Commitments

EPA assesses draft milestone commitments– EPA provided its evaluations of the draft 2026-2027 milestone commitments to the seven Chesapeake Bay states and the Conowingo Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) Steering Committee. The Chesapeake Bay Program partnership committed EXIT EPA WEBSITE to have all practices and controls in place to achieve applicable water quality standards for dissolved oxygen, water clarity/submerged aquatic vegetation and chlorophyll-a. Since 2012, the seven states and the federal agencies and, later, the Conowingo WIP Steering Committee have established short-term goals, called two-year milestones, to help achieve those water quality standards. EPA’s next evaluation will assess the 2024-2025 milestone progress, the final 2026-2027 milestone commitments, and the numeric progress toward meeting water quality targets. Per the partnership’s schedule, final 2026-2027 milestone commitments are due May 15, 2026, and EPA expects to complete the next evaluation in Summer 2026.

To get answers to state-specific questions about the two-year milestones, please visit your state's website or contact the state lead (Jurisdiction Contact).
