Bodie Mine Good Samaritan Cleanup

As per the permit, Bodie Mine Good Samaritan cleanup activities included excavating and removing contaminated mine tailings along 400 linear feet of the Toroda Creek streambank and streambed. In advance of the fieldwork, Trout Unlimited, Inc. worked with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to safely remove and relocate fish within the work zone.

After excavation and removal of the contaminated soil and sediment, Trout Unlimited reconstructed and stabilized the streambank using clean soil, coir lifts, riprap and native revegetation techniques. The new design is estimated to eliminate approximately 104 tons of mine tailings from eroding into Toroda Creek each year.

Overall, fieldwork activities took approximately 5 weeks during the months of September and October 2026.
