The National Environmental Education Advisory Council (NEEAC) is an independent advisory committee that provides advice and recommendations to the EPA Administrator on environmental education needs of schools, universities, state departments (of education and natural resources) and educational organizations. Committee members include representatives from academic, business, not-for-profit organizations, state education and natural resources departments, and members of the public.
Overview of the NEEAC
Authority
The NEEAC was established on November 16, 1990, by the National Environmental Education Act to advise, consult with, and make recommendations to the Administrator on matters related to activities, functions and policies of EPA. The NEEAC is chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act. NEEAC charter is renewed every 2 years.

Membership
The NEEAC is comprised of 11 committee members, including one Chair and one Vice-Chair, as identified by the Administrator or Deputy Administrator. Committee members serve a term of three years.
Meetings
The NEEAC expects to meet up to twice a calendar year in person and/or virtually. As required by the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), the NEEAC meetings are open to the public and will be announced in the Federal Register at least 15 days in advance. Interested persons may attend meetings, appear before the committee as time permits, and file comments with the NEEAC.
