Status of Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program Priority Group 2 and 3 Chemicals

In October 2023, EPA issued a Federal Register Notice (FRN) with Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) Near-term Strategies and supporting documents that describe how EPA is prioritizing its screening for potential impacts to the estrogen, androgen, and thyroid systems in humans, focusing initially on conventional pesticide active ingredients. EPA has committed to posting regular updates through this web page on the status of any Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) data call-in notices (DCIs) to track release of and responses to such DCIs for conventional pesticides in what EPA has referred to as priority Group 2 and 3 chemicals in the EDSP Near-Term Strategies. The EDSP Near-term Strategies FRN and the support documents are available on www.regulations.gov in docket number EPA-HQ-OPP-2023-0474. The supporting documents include:

  • Use of Existing Mammalian Data to Address Data Needs and Decisions for Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) for Humans under FFDCA Section 408(p)
  • List of Conventional Registration Review Chemicals for Which an FFDCA Section 408(p)(6) Determination is Needed
  • Status of Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) List 1 Screening Conclusions (referred to here as List 1 Screening Conclusions)
  • Updated List of Conventional Pesticide Active Ingredients with Adequate Estrogen and Androgen Data for Humans to Inform FFDCA Section 408(p)(6) Determinations. (September 2024)

As explained in these documents, conventional pesticides in registration review that may need additional estrogen and/or androgen data were placed into one of three priority groups. Pesticides that demonstrated potential impact to the estrogen and/or androgen pathways were placed in the high priority group, which is referred to as Group 1 in the EDSP Near-term Strategies. EPA is requiring data earlier in the registration review process and expediting DCIs for this group. For information on Group 1 cases, visit Status of Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program Data Call-In (DCI) Notices for Group 1 Chemicals.

Conventional pesticides in registration review where ToxCast Pathway Model scores were not available for the estrogen receptor or androgen receptor were placed in Group 2. For Group 2 chemicals, EPA intends to refine each case and then determine whether additional endocrine data are needed. EPA generally expects to do this, and issue any related DCIs, through the scheduled registration review process.

Conventional pesticides in registration review that show no activity for either estrogen or androgen receptors were placed in Group 3. EPA has assigned these pesticides a lower priority for obtaining additional data, given that current data suggest no potential for estrogen or androgen activity. Similar to Group 2, EPA generally intends to examine each case in Group 3 and issue any needed DCIs during the scheduled registration review process.

For more information on the registration review schedule, please visit: Upcoming Registration Review Actions.

The tables below contain the status for the Group 2 and 3 chemicals as of December 10, 2025.
