Information Related to Fraudulent EPA Notice of Violation Letters
EPA is aware that businesses are receiving falsified Notice of Violation letters demanding payment for alleged environmental violations. Please see the Office of Inspector General's Fraud Alert issued on July 30, 2024.

If you receive a letter that is similar to or the same as the example we’ve provided, please contact the OIG hotline at (888) 546-8740 or send an electronic copy of the letter to the OIG.Hotline@epa.gov
If you would like to verify the authenticity of the notice you received, please email OECA_Communications@epa.gov and include an electronic version of the letter you received with your inquiry. EPA will forward on any letters we verify as part of this fraudulent activity or you will be contacted regarding the letter you received
EPA will provide additional information on this page as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please do not take any action outlined in the fraudulent letter, including submitting payment.
