Using Green Infrastructure to Prevent Flooding from Intensified Storms in New York and New Jersey

As communities experience more intense storms and nuisance flooding events, municipalities are turning to green infrastructure with a combination of strategies to reduce the effects of these extreme weather events. Join EPA’s next Green Infrastructure Webcast featuring Dr. Pinar Balci from New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) who will highlight their Cloudburst Management Program and how they are prioritizing overburdened communities to support adaptation to extreme weather.  Dr. Chris Obropta from Rutgers Cooperative Extension will talk about how he is working with communities in central New Jersey to design a watershed scale green infrastructure project that will adapt to more intense rainstorms in Hillsboro and Manville, NJ. Lindsey Sigmund, Program Manager at New Jersey Future, will give an overview of green infrastructure tools and resources to move green stormwater infrastructure projects into common practice.
