Cleanup Status
Roche previously removed underground storage tanks, replaced and upgraded broken sewer lines, removed contaminated soil, and monitored the groundwater. The facility installed and operated a groundwater recovery system for about 10 years. The system removed and treated contaminated groundwater under a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) permit. Because of a decrease in groundwater contamination at the site, Roche stopped the use of the system and monitored the groundwater.
A Preliminary Assessment and Remedial Investigation are underway at the site. The work is being conducted under the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) property transfer program. Some areas require additional assessment of potential contamination. Other areas are undergoing sampling to determine the nature and extent of contamination. Areas of contamination will require cleanup, primarily soil contamination.
