Summary

Minor Post-Record of Decision Change for Baxter Springs Subsite

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has made a minor post-Record of Decision (ROD) change to the remedy at Cherokee County Superfund site Operable Unit 3 (OU3). The plan includes cleanup of contaminated sediment under the mine waste in Willow Creek because erosion from nearby piles has affected the area.

The current cleanup plan removes visible mine waste from the stream, but the sediment underneath may still contain high levels of contaminants of concern. EPA will clean up the contaminated sediment at the same time as the visible mine waste in Willow Creek and continue the ongoing remedial actions in OU3 under the 2006 ROD Amendment (RODA).

  • A memo documenting the minor post-ROD change can be viewed online: Memorandum of Minor Post-Record of Decision Change.
  • The full text of the RODA is available online: 2006 Record of Decision Amendment (pdf).
