Most Recent MOVES Training Materials:

  • MOVES Hands-on Training Course. EPA’s MOVES Hands-on Training Course contains detailed information on how to use MOVES. This course will provide you with understanding of MOVES modeling capabilities and input data needs, how to decide on a modeling strategy, how to use MOVES to estimate both onroad and nonroad emissions, and how and when to apply relevant EPA guidance.
  • Project-Level Training for Quantitative PM Hot-spot Analysis. EPA has developed a multi-day training course in accordance with EPA’s “Transportation Conformity Guidance for Quantitative Hot-spot Analyses in PM2.5 and PM10 Nonattainment and Maintenance Areas”. This technical, hands-on course is geared toward state and local agency staff and focuses on using emission models (including EPA's MOVES model) and EPA's air quality model (AERMOD) for quantitative PM hot-spot analyses. This course is based on a previous version of MOVES but is still largely applicable to the latest MOVES version. See link above for more detailed information on this course, as well as other webinars and presentations on this guidance.
  • MOVES5 Introduction and Overview (pdf) (1.52 MB, Public Webinar, December 18, 2024) , describes changes between MOVES4 and MOVES5, guidance for using MOVES5, and tools to manage user inputs.
  • MOVES5 Data and Analysis (pdf) (4.26 MB, April 2025) , describes the data and analysis for extending MOVES calculations to cover 40+ years, updating the characteristics of MOVES default fuels, updating MOVES emission rates for brake wear, and several other changes.

Training Materials for Older MOVES Versions:
