Summary

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finalized the Record of Decision, or ROD, for Operable Unit 1 (OU1) of the Billings PCE Superfund Site. The document presents EPA’s cleanup plan for addressing vapor intrusion at the site.

The selected remedy for OU1 was chosen in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). EPA, in consultation with Montana DEQ, determined that the remedy for OU1 is protective of human health and the environment.

The remedy includes:

  • Installing vapor mitigation systems in affected homes – EPA/contractors will install
sub-slab systems at no cost, coordinating access with property owners.
  • Institutional controls – Governmental controls including city ordinances and deed
notifications will be implemented at OU1.

Read the documents or learn more at the Billings PCE Superfund site webpage.
