EPA Announces $219,000 in Grants to Support Safe Beach Recreation in Ohio
Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a $219,000 grant to the Ohio Department of Public Health to monitor water quality near Great Lakes beaches and alert the public if elevated levels of bacteria make swimming unsafe.
"This grant funds programs that deliver real-time beach condition updates, ensuring beachgoers can enjoy worry-free fun," said EPA Regional Administrator and Great Lakes National Program Manager Anne Vogel. "It bolsters the thriving Great Lakes economies that depend on vibrant outdoor recreation and tourism."
This funding is authorized by the Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health (BEACH) Act. It advances the goals of cooperative federalism to ensure that every American has access to clean and safe water. Each of these goals supports EPA’s “Powering the Great American Comeback” initiative.
