EPA announces appointment of Mark Sanborn as Regional Administrator for New England
BOSTON (Apr. 1, 2025) — Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin announced that President Donald J. Trump has appointed Mark Sanborn as the Regional Administrator for EPA Region 1. As Regional Administrator, Mark will lead efforts to advance the Administration's environmental agenda across the six New England states—Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont—and 10 federally recognized Tribal Nations.
"As a policy expert, public servant, and environmental leader, Mark Sanborn brings deep knowledge of the priorities and challenges facing communities across New England," said EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. "His experience in state and federal government and his work in the private sector provides him with the tools and experience necessary to help implement President Trump's policies throughout the region. I'm pleased to welcome Mark to the EPA leadership team knowing Region 1 has a great leader at the helm to help Power the Great American Comeback."

About Mark Sanborn
Mark Sanborn is a native of New Hampshire and brings a unique combination of federal and state experience, coupled with experience in the private sector. Mark has extensive background in domestic policy, government relations, and project management spanning both the public and private sectors. Prior to his appointment, he held key roles in New Hampshire state government, including as the Assistant Commissioner of New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and Energy Advisor at the New Hampshire Department of Energy. At the federal level, Mark has served in several leadership positions including as Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development, and as Director of Governmental and Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mark began his career on Capitol Hill working for U.S. Senator Bob Smith of New Hampshire.
Mark holds a degree in political science from the University of New Hampshire. Throughout his career, Mark has been committed to finding practical, commonsense solutions to complex environmental challenges, while stewarding New England's natural resources and supporting economic growth. He is known for his collaborative leadership style, practical problem-solving, and ability to build consensus around complex environmental issues.
