Contact: EPA Region 4 Press Office - (404) 562-8400, region4press@epa.gov

GRENADA, Mississippi (Oct. 29, 2026) – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold an informational public meeting to share an update on the Rockwell International Wheel & Trim Superfund Site, including the Groundwater Extraction and Treatment System (GETS). The system addresses the migration of groundwater contamination, further shrinking the groundwater plume and decreasing contaminant levels at and near the facility and beneath the Eastern Heights neighborhood.

When:

Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6 – 7 p.m. CT

Where:

Grenada City Auditorium

17 N. Main St.

Grenada, MS 38901

Background

The Rockwell International Wheel & Trim Superfund Site was added to the National Priorities List in 2018, due to contamination of trichloroethene (TCE) and related compounds in groundwater, surface water, soil, and indoor air. The GETS began operating in 2020 with one pumping well and later added additional wells. In 2024 and 2025, two more wells, bringing the total to nine, were added to protect the Eastern Heights neighborhood, where contaminated groundwater had migrated. TCE vapors beneath the facility have caused TCE indoor air contamination. Indoor air in nearby homes has tested negative for TCE.
