EPA Regional Administrator Kevin McOmber and U.S. Representative Brian Mast Highlight Significant Water Infrastructure Investment in Fort Pierce
Fort Pierce, Florida (October 27, 2026) – Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator Kevin McOmber and U.S. Representative Brian Mast (R-FL-21) joined state and local leaders in celebrating $1 million in Community Project Funding for water infrastructure improvements at the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA). The funding will be used for wastewater infrastructure improvements associated with the relocation of wastewater treatment operations to the new Water Reclamation & Reuse Facility. The funds will provide 900 feet of 24-inch pipeline and related equipment to connect Lift Station F to the existing pipeline along Glenview Avenue.
Wastewater treatment operations are moving from the Indian River Lagoon to an industrial location to protect the estuary from contamination and create a more efficient system that protects human health and the environment.
“This is a wonderful example of how Community Project Funding can make a big impact on much-needed infrastructure improvements,” said EPA Region 4 Administrator Kevin McOmber. “The relocation of this water treatment facility will provide Fort Pierce residents with essential services for years to come while protecting the Indian River Lagoon.”
“This project represents an important investment in the future of our community and the health of the Indian River Lagoon,” said Florida State Representative Dana Trabulsy. “As a state, we have invested millions of dollars to help these local relocation efforts, and I am so proud to see our state, federal, and local partners working together towards a shared goal of protecting the Indian River Lagoon. Together, we can preserve our state’s natural resources for future generations to enjoy.”
“Relocating our wastewater treatment facility away from the Indian River Lagoon is a significant investment in the future of Fort Pierce and the health of our waterways,” said Javier Cisneros, P.E., Director of Utilities and Chief Executive Officer, FPUA. “This $1 million in EPA funding helps us advance that commitment while reducing the financial burden on our customers. We appreciate the federal partnership in making this important project possible.”
“The conveyance system is a critical component of the wastewater treatment plant relocation, connecting our community to the new mainland facility,” said Lugey Dawson, P.E., Lead Project Manager, Phase Two Wastewater Conveyance System, FPUA. “This funding will help us build the infrastructure needed to redirect wastewater flows from South Hutchinson Island and ensure our community has a reliable, efficient wastewater system that will serve residents and businesses for generations to come.”
