EPA resumes cleanup of residential yards at the Jacobsville Superfund site in Evansville, Indiana
Work was paused during the winter months.
CHICAGO (March 31, 2025) – This week, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is starting to sample and clean up soil at about 350 residential yards at the Jacobsville Neighborhood Soil Contamination Superfund site in Evansville, Indiana. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will manage the day-to-day cleanup work.
Crews will remove lead and arsenic contamination from yards in or near the Ballard, Bayard Park, Culver, Fulton Terrace, Haynie’s Corner, Jacobsville, Jimtown, and Riverside neighborhoods. EPA continues to contact residents to request permission to access and sample additional properties that may require cleanup.
Since 2007, EPA has removed contaminated soil from more than 4,000 residential properties and recreational areas at the site which was added to Superfund’s National Priorities List in 2004. The agency continues to work closely with local government and community groups to expedite cleanup and help revitalize Evansville neighborhoods affected by the contamination.
