Summary

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9 (EPA) is issuing a notice of proposed action under the Clean Water Act (CWA). EPA is proposing to issue a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit NN0020265 to Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) Chinle Wastewater Treatment Plant and Collection System, Chinle, AZ.

The permit authorizes the discharge of treated effluent from the Chinle wastewater treatment plant to the Nazlini Wash, tributary to the San Juan River. The Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) operates the treatment plant and is decommissioning the current plant. NTUA is currently constructing a new activated sludge treatment facility that will discharge treated secondary effluent to the Nazlini Wash.
