EPA Proposes Registration of a Product Containing Bacillus subtilis strain 3, Bacillus subtilis strain 281, and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain 298, New Microbial Active Ingredients

For Release: July 13, 2021

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to register one biopesticide product containing three new microbial active ingredients: Bacillus subtilis strain 3, Bacillus subtilis strain 281, and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain 298.

The biopesticide product will be applied through a handheld pump spray bottle and used to suppress odor and discoloration-causing bacterial and fungal growth on indoor surfaces in commercial and residential areas including automobiles, hotels rooms and general indoor spaces.

EPA’s evaluation included a robust scientific assessment, which was used to conclude that this product, when used according to the label instructions, does not present any risks of concern to humans. EPA also concluded the product’s registered uses will have no effect on any nontarget species. Therefore, the agency made a “No Effect” determination for listed (endangered or threatened) species and their designated critical habitats.

EPA is accepting public comments on this proposal via docket EPA-HQ-OPP-2020-0457 at www.regulations.gov for 15 days.
