EPA Requests Comments on Peer Reviewers for the FIFRA SAP on Genetically Engineered Mosquitoes
Released August 20, 2025
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking public comment on scientific and technical experts to be considered as ad hoc peer reviewers to assist the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) with the review of EPA’s white paper on genetically engineered (GE) female mosquitoes for mosquito control. This call for public comments follows EPA’s request for nominations in July 2025.
Comments must be submitted to the peer review docket EPA-HQ-OPP-2025-0756 on www.regulations.gov. Comments will be accepted for 15 days, until Sep. 4, 2025.
The agency’s white paper and supporting documents on GE mosquitoes will be released for a separate public comment period tomorrow, Aug. 21, 2025.
The FIFRA SAP serves as one of the primary scientific peer review mechanisms of EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention and is structured to provide independent scientific advice, information and recommendations to the agency on pesticides and pesticide-related issues as to the impact of regulatory actions on human health and the environment.
