Proposed Strategy for San Joaquin River Basin Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment

A proposed Strategy for San Joaquin River Basin Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment was published in 2010, and a Strawman Proposal was developed in 2012 by the Coalition for Urban Rural Environmental Stewardship (CURES), the California Water Resources Board, and EPA.

The strategy describes activities to establish a regional monitoring program in the San Joaquin Basin, one of the hydrologic regions in the State Water Plan. Its purpose is to help develop a program to better coordinate water quality monitoring and assessment, thereby improving the quality, accessibility and usefulness of the resulting information.

The Strawman Proposal is a roadmap to a coordinated regional plan, currently under development, which would focus on eliminating potential duplication of effort while ensuring timely reporting of information to support water program decisions, answer research questions and track trends in the region. It would also facilitate the assessment of the various water resources in the basin and ensure that information developed is accessible to stakeholders and the general public.
