Proposed Revocation of the 2020 Reconsideration and Affirmation of the Appropriate and Necessary Supplemental Finding

EPA has proposed to reaffirm the determination that it is appropriate and necessary to regulate hazardous air pollutants (HAP), including mercury, from power plants after considering cost. These regulation are known as the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards for power plants, or MATS. This action would revoke a 2020 finding that it is not appropriate and necessary to regulate coal- and oil-fired power plants under Clean Air Act (CAA) section 112.  This proposal would ensure that fossil-fuel fired power plants continue to control emissions of toxic air pollution, including mercury.

Proposed Rule: National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants: Coal- and Oil-Fired Electric Utility Steam Generating Units - Revocation of the 2020 Reconsideration, and Affirmation of the Appropriate and Necessary Supplemental Finding
