Tribal Emergency Preparedness and Response Webinars
Environmental emergencies from natural disasters, contamination of hazardous materials, oil discharges or chemical accidents may occur, so it is important for Tribal communities to be prepared to implement necessary prevention and response measures.
The goal of these webinars is to assist Tribes with learning tools, techniques and resources.
These webinars are a free and open resource for communities who are interested in trainings on environmental emergency response and management.
Topics covered may include emergency removals of hazardous materials, oil spill prevention, or chemical emergency preparedness regulations on Tribal lands.

Natural Disaster Readiness for Tribes: Initial Emergency Response to Lithium-ion Battery Hazards
Date: Thursday Nov 19th, from 1-4pm ET, 10am – 1pm PT
Register here.
When natural disasters strike, Tribal Nations should be prepared to conduct reconnaissance, evaluate resources, and seek support when needed. Using case studies, this three-hour webinar will take a technical approach to cover lithium-ion battery emergency responses and provide guidance on how to conduct initial response activities within the first two weeks following a large-scale natural disaster.
The course will be delivered in three parts:
- An overview of initial site stabilization following a natural disaster.
- Emergency response to lithium-ion battery incidents under the Comprehensive Environmental Responsibility and Liability Act (CERCLA, better known as Superfund) and the Stafford Act.
- Gathering and tracking appropriate data to be able to advance in the cleanup process and work with other partners.
This webinar is the first in a three-part series for Tribes on lithium-ion batteries and emergency response and management. Subsequent webinars will be offered on Cleanup Actions and Operations and Stabilization Activities.
Though the intended audiences for this webinar are those involved in Tribal emergency response and waste management programs, all are welcome to attend.
