Public Notice: UIC No Migration Petition Proposed Reissuance Decision Review - Sasol Chemicals (USA), LLC - Greens Bayou Plant
Summary
PURPOSE OF PUBLIC NOTICE
This notice serves to state the intention of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Region 6, to propose a reissuance of an exemption to the land disposal restrictions of the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984 (HSWA) to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (42 U.S.C. Section 6901, et seq) for the following facility:

The proposed petition reissuance is for two (2) Class I injection wells that will be used to inject hazardous waste near Harris County, Texas. The petition reissuance requires, among other things, that the permittee monitor the injection project and submit periodic reports to EPA Region 6. Ongoing monitoring requirements are designed to ensure protection of underground sources of drinking water.
The proposed reissuance decision was based on a detailed technical review of the submitted reissuance request with supporting documents. This notice also marks the opening to the public of a 45-day comment period during which the public may submit comments on EPA’s proposed action.
FACILITY INFORMATION
Merichem Company, originally constructed and operated WDW-147, using it to inject hazardous wastes. In 2000, Merisol USA, LLC. (formerly Merichem Company) was granted approval by EPA Region 6 to inject hazardous waste into WDW-319. Sasol Chemicals (USA), LLC (formerly Merisol USA, LLC) has been operating the wells for the primary purpose of hazardous waste disposal under this petition since June 28, 2006. Sasol Chemicals (USA), LLC submitted a No-Migration Petition reissuance requesting a modification to the present Exemption Approval Conditions (referencing June 28, 2006, approval). The requested modification is for an extension of the operational life of the facility to December 31, 2050. All previously approved cumulative values remain unchanged as shown in the fact sheet. Sasol Chemicals has demonstrated that it's approved no migration petition continues to remain valid.
