EPA Begins Review of Refuse Hideaway Landfill Superfund Site
The U.S. Environmental Agency is conducting a five-year review of the Refuse Hideaway Landfill Superfund site located on U.S. Highway 14 in Middleton, Wisconsin. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up—with waste managed onsite—to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the fifth review of the site. EPA's cleanup included an upgrade to the existing landfill cap, landfill gas and leachate collection systems, and extra point-of-entry water treatment systems for affected homes. Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources has performed routine maintenance at the site.
