The Burn Wise Program ran from 2009 to 2025. The website serves as a historic record; EPA is no longer updating program content as of October 30, 2025. 

The Burn Wise program is no longer offering user support. You may find what you are looking for on our Frequently Asked Questions page which includes:

  • links to the EPA-certified wood heater database 
  • wood smoke from your neighbor 
  • no burn days or burn bans
  • how to know if your wood stove is EPA-certified
  • the 26% Federal tax credit for certain new wood stoves.
