Apply by June for $16 Million in Pollution Prevention Grants that Advance Environmental Justice

Released on May 5, 2023

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting applications for two new grant opportunities to support states and Tribes in providing technical assistance to businesses seeking to develop and adopt pollution prevention (P2) practices. These grants are made possible by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and will advance environmental justice and protect disadvantaged communities. Applications for both grants are due in June.

  • The Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice in Communities will support technical assistance for businesses to specifically target and improve human health and the environment in disadvantaged communities. Applications for this grant are due by June 6, 2023. To apply, go to grants.gov and search for EPA-I-OCSPP-OPPT-FY2023-001.
  • The Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice Through Safer and More Sustainable Products will support P2 technical assistance to businesses to improve human health and the environment in disadvantaged communities by increasing the supply, demand and use of safer and more sustainable products, such as those that are certified by EPA’s Safer Choice program, or those that conform to EPA’s Recommendations for Specifications, Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Purchasing. Applications for this grant are due by June 20, 2023. To apply, go to grants.gov and search for EPA-I-OCSPP-OPPT-FY2023-002.

Additionally, EPA is announcing a correction in the Requests for Applications (RFA) for both grants which erroneously stated that EPA would not accept multiple applications from the same applicant. EPA has corrected the language in the RFA to clarify that if an applicant submits multiple applications for an identical project (either in error or to replace a previously submitted application), EPA will only review the most recently submitted application, unless the contact notifies Bridget Kelly (kelly.bridget@epa.gov) and specifies which application they want EPA to review.
