October 25-31 is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

Released October 22, 2026

Next week is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW). Each year, NLPPW brings together individuals, organizations, industry, and state, Tribal, territorial, and local governments to reduce childhood exposure to lead through increased awareness and education.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development developed community resources for NLPPW. The resources include sample social media, key information about lead and lead poisoning, and customizable materials can be used by companies, organizations, governmental entities, and individuals to plan and implement local events and activities about preventing lead exposure.

The NLPPW theme for 2026 is “Keep Kids Safe from Lead,” which focuses on three key messages:

  • Get the Facts – Learn about lead hazards in your environment
  • Get Your Child Tested – Ensure early detection through a blood lead test
  • Get Your Home Tested – Identify and address potential lead sources

Additionally, EPA is hosting a webinar for anyone interested in learning more about lead and protecting children from lead exposure. By the end of the webinar, participants will recognize potential sources of lead exposure, understand its effects, know simple actions to reduce lead exposure, and understand the importance of testing children’s blood lead levels. There will be time at the end for questions from participants. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, October 27 from 2-3 p.m. EST. Register for the webinar.

For more information about NLPPW, visit our NLPPW webpage in English or in Spanish.
