Develop an EMS

Overview of the Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle

The information on these Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) pages illustrates the multi-step EMS planning and development process for a total of 27 steps. It is recommended that organizations go through these steps when first establishing an EMS and then repeating them when they pass through subsequent PDCA cycles in the process of striving for continual improvement. If an organization has already established an EMS, it may only need to determine whether modifications are needed to address changing conditions as it passes through the steps again.
