Summary

The U.S. Environmental Agency is conducting a five-year review of the Refuse Hideaway Landfill Superfund site located on U.S. Highway 14 in Middleton, Wisconsin. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up—with waste managed onsite—to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment.

This is the fifth review of the site. EPA's cleanup included an upgrade to the existing landfill cap, landfill gas and leachate collection systems, and extra point-of-entry water treatment systems for affected homes. Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources has performed routine maintenance at the site.

More information is available at the Middleton Public Library, 7425 Hubbard Ave., and at site webpage. The review should be completed by August 2027. The five-year review is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
