Description

On June 4, 2026, EPA announced a proposal to approve the application submitted by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for surface impoundments and landfills to allow the LDEQ Coal Combustion Residuals permit program to operate in lieu of the federal CCR program. EPA preliminarily determined that the Louisiana CCR permit program meets the standard for approval under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.

EPA will accept comments on this proposal through August 4, 2026.

EPA will hold a hybrid in-person and online public hearing about this proposed approval on July 21, 2026. For more information, visit our public hearing webpage.
