EPA Tools and Resources Webinar Series

Free webinars typically held the third Wednesday of every month from 3:00-4:00 PM (ET). 

EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) hosts this monthly public webinar series to translate EPA research and share research resources and information that are useful, practical/applied and available to meet stakeholders' research needs. In addition, the EPA Tools and Resources Training Webinar Series provides in-depth overviews and step-by-step tutorials on popular EPA science-based models and tools.

NOTE: Attendees have the option of receiving a certificate of attendance. Acceptance of certificates is contingent on organization requirements—EPA cannot guarantee acceptance. Closed-captioned recordings of the webinars are provided below for later viewing and as a training resource; certificates cannot be provided for viewing webinar recordings. Risk Communication Strategies
After a flood, affected residents often want to assess the condition of their homes and businesses, get rid of debris and muck, and repair damaged property. Flooded buildings contain potential health risks, though. Getting information to the public after a disaster about what these health risks are and how to avoid them can be difficult. EPA’s Office of Research Development and EPA’s Region 4 Office used the EPA’s risk communication framework and human-centered design techniques to figure out what information people affected by a flood need and how they make cleanup decisions. They used this input to create a website on how to safely clean out and fix up flooded homes.

Flooded Homes Cleanup Guidance
The U.S. EPA developed the Flooded Homes Cleanup Guidance to provide homeowners, renters, and volunteers with information on how to safely remediate homes after a flood. The website contains short how-to videos with step-by-step instruction from safely entering a flooded building to mold remediation techniques. It also includes infographics and links for more information. The public can use this website to reduce hazards in the home after a flooding event to protect their health. It helps communities recover as quickly and safely as possible. The webinar will review the risk communication and human-centered design strategies used to develop the Flooded Homes Cleanup Guidance website and provide an overview of the website and its key features.
