Funding Opportunities Related to Wasted Food
Wasted food is a growing problem in our modern society and an untapped opportunity. In 2019 alone, EPA estimates that about 66 million tons of wasted food were generated in the food retail, food service, and residential sectors, and most of this waste (60 percent) was sent to landfills. EPA estimates that more food reaches landfills and combustion facilities than any other single material in our everyday trash, constituting 24 percent of the amount landfilled and 22 percent of the amount combusted with energy recovery in 2018.

Commission for Environmental Cooperation Funding Opportunity
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is requesting proposals from prospective consultants, in collaboration with governmental and expert advisors, to develop and promote outreach materials to raise awareness of wasted food through large-scale events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup (FWC26) taking place in North America. These materials will provide local governments, communities, and other key actors the tools to design and implement social marketing campaigns that will promote sustainable management of food during large-scale public events. The maximum budget for this activity is expected to be C$360,000 (Canadian dollars). Find more information and the Request for Proposals form on their webpage.
All proposals must be received by 5:00 PM ET on July 25, 2025.
