Selected Application Summary
The selected application will support the installation of biofilters to reduce fugitive methane emissions from closed landfills in the Mid-Hudson Valley Region of New York. It will also promote the installation of solar arrays and battery storage systems, installation of native pollinator gardens, and create long-term ecosystem stewardship plans at former landfills.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce greenhouse gases and support communities 1:
- Reduce methane emissions from 14 closed landfills in municipalities across the Hudson Valley area, half near low-income and disadvantaged communities.
- Provide technology assistance to municipalities to help with leases for community solar and battery storage installations.
- Improve biodiversity and habitat by installing native pollinator gardens to restore local ecosystems and support climate resilience.

EPA will award grants to selected applicants once they meet all legal and administrative requirements. As of July 2024, grants are expected to be awarded by the end of 2024.
